Goal-1: Strengthening the enabling environment

Create a platform and favourable environment for exchange of information and knowledge among water, energy, food and sanitation and other related experts on a regular basis toward a shared goal.
1. Establish a network of expert groups and project relevant partners.
2. Conduct meetings, workshops and conferences to distil applicable knowledge and enable its transfer from research field to implementation in pre-urban areas.
3. Identify and promote necessary changes in policy required for the project goals.
4. Help support and secure funding and technical support for the project.

Goal-2: Preparing the localised concept and detailed project implementation plan

Prepare a detailed area specific plan of action for linking food and sanitation in order to benefit minimum of 50,000 people.
1. Conduct literature reviews, expert consultation meetings and site visits to assess local experiences on reuse of treated wastewater for food
2. Develop an area specific intervention strategy and plan
3. Conduct feasibility study in minimum of 10 potential intervention localities
4. Seek funding for 3 of the 10 identified locations

Goal-3: Implement a demonstration project

Implement a demonstration project based on the outcome of Goal-2. .
1. Prepare site specific detailed engineering drawing and social procedures to benefit minimum of 10,000 inhabitants
2. Develop and implement institutional framework for distribution of treated wastewater
3. Implement the project with a strong stakeholder engagement ensuring more food for minimum of 4,000 inhabitants and improved settlement hygiene for a minimum of 6,000 inhabitants
4. Develop and conduct integrated IEC on nutrition and sanitation
5. Develop a market strategy for ensuring the target-groups acceptance and accessibility of food produced from treated wastewater
6. Operate and maintain the system for a minimum of two years

Goal-4: Document, disseminate and build capacity of other actors

Ensure that other relevant actors in the sectors are able to design and implement similar projects
1. Prepare practical guidelines for technical, institutional and marketing mechanisms to facilitate the implementation of reuse of treated waste and wastewater in agriculture
2. Develop training modules for different target groups
3. Provide training to minimum of 40 participants
4. Collaborate with other training institutes and organizations for dissemination of learning
